First, Let me show you above drawing of a typical Folding Stationary Magnetic Upright Cycling Exercise Bike. This is so called explosive view of a product.

  1. The Blue parts the is main frame of the bike, looks like an “X” letter. and the short part of the X, the lower part is covered by a pair of plastic shell, check the gray parts at  left side and right side. The upper part of short X is left for connection of saddle.
  2. The black parts are the front leg and rear leg stabilizer, which will put on the ground to support the main frame.
  3. The green one is the magnetic resistance adjustment knob, normally it is an 8 level adjustment.
  4. The two red circles are two rubber belt which assembled inside the plastic shell. They connect the two flywheels and when you ride on it, it will cycling.
  5. The Pink one is the saddle, The teal one is the monitor, the brown one is the handle.

So this is a typical, most common Folding Upright Exercise Bike’s explosive view. Almost 90% of exercise bike on the market are applied this structure. and may differ a little in some details. I believe neither fitness brand nor the product review article has clearly talked about this before.

Second, I need tell you some basic different cycling machine. Check above image, from left to right,

  1. This is the normal bike we could see on the street, right?  rider’s upper body is upright.
  2. This is the stationary exercise bike, also the user’s upper body is upright. You can count as a no-wheel version of normal bike.  One features of these two bikes is the handle height is higher than the saddle height.
  3. This is a mountain bike or a race bike.  so the handle height is almost equal the saddle height. so when you ride on it you have to lean your upper body forward when cycling.
  4. so this is the stationary version of race bike, wheel is fixed.  we know as a spin bike or cycling bike, this is very popular in GYM. and there are many cycle bike gym who is focus on cycling exercise using this kind of bike.
  5. This is a recumbent exercise bike, your upper body is lean backward on a support back cushion, this is a very comfortable bike with less pressure on your leg and joint.

These 5 kinds of bike is the most common seen products on the retail market.

Unless you want to see your heart rate on the monitor screen, there is no need to hold the handle, you can sit upright on the saddle and riding, but remember to keep balance because your hand is not hold it.

Yes, of course. This kind of bike is driven by fly wheel and magnetic resistance control with smoothly bidirectional forward and backward.

Yes, you can. But here are two things you need remember, 1. keep your mouth, don’t eat too much. 2. exercise at least 30 minutes/workout;

Some people doing exercise and hope it will help them lose weight, but they forget to keep the calories balances, that means your input calories from food should less than the calories burned through your exercise workout.  and your exercise time should last long enough to get into the process of burn fat.

For short people, check your inseam length, normally it should be no short than 29 inch.  For tall people, like 6’2″, 6’3″, etc, it is ok to use it, but the problem comes to the short circle of the pedal. Because it is a compact design, the circle of pedal a round is short, tall people may fell not stretched enough. we suggest to try a cycling bike or other equipment.

According to test, the most chances that parts will broken during max intensity workout is pedal, saddle, belt inside.  Because the pedal may broken because it is made by plastic.  Saddle may wear and broken because your pants scratch the saddle. And the rubber belt inside will also wearable thinner and thinner, until it’s broken after millions of circling.

If you use the bike in high resistance daily and long time workout every time,  your thighs have plenty of exercise. Keep remember to do 5 to 10 minutes stretch exercise after finish.  If you ride in easy, moderate resistance, it’s no problem.

The bike frame is constructed like a triangle which is the most stable structure. and when people exercise on it, the forth is forward and backward, it is also will not interfere the stable. But if you ride on it with vigorous shaking left and right side, it will fall down.

What size mat is required?

It depends on your floor. If it is tile floor, better to use a mat or a carpet because the tile surface is slip, it may effect the stability. If it is already on carpet floor, then extra mat is not necessary.  if you do want buy a mat, check the exercise bike’s product spec, i believe they will show it.

this is the biggest secret of this product.  They never indicated it in their product description.  As we know, the factory has a value of resistance, but this is internal. Besides, it is not practical to tell customer the actual value. because every customer’s leg strength is different, someone may feel easy and someone may feel hard at the same level.

No, assembly is required. But factory has already pre-assembled the most difficult parts, only handle, saddle, pedal, and some small parts needs some assemble.  According to the test, one person can assemble it solely in 20 minutes.  If all parts were assembled, the carton will be so big, so will be the express fee.

Don’t trust the calories show on the monitor screen. It’s not accurate, the monitor don’t know your gender,  your height, your body weight,  how it can calculate the burning calories. If you have wearable devices like Fitbit, use it as a references.

the exercise bike’s handle is made by round steel tube similar like normal road bike, buy a iPhone holder that can mount on the normal road bike or mountain bike, it can mound on this stationary exercise bike.

There are one or two wires coming out of the bike frame,  you need to plug with the wire or plugin the hold at the back of the monitor.

You can not ride standing on an Upright Exercise Bike.  But you can ride standing on a cycling / spin bike.

There are two transportation wheels near the leg, you can easily move it here and there.
